please advise. need some investigations done on our three year old re:stomach aches and vomiting. Local hospital a bit here there and everywhere. Have been advised to seek second opinion. where shall we ask the doctor to refer us to. Only need one visit. Therefore distance no object. Am in oxford, so London hospitals preferred, but others also considered. TIA

Great Ormond Street all the way. Their absolute stars. All staff go out of their way to help and will not let go of a case until they have solved it. Good luck

Chelsea and Westminster has an excellent paediatric gastro team, they take referalls from all over the place. No private paeds at C&W I think, but I'd expect the doctors work privately elsewhere (poss the Cromwell). My DD1 was there for a few weeks (under a different team) and the consultants there (Dr Fell?) look after some very sick children very very well.

GOSH if you can get a referral there is always good. And no, it isn't part of UCH but UCH do refer certain paediatric cases there.

I just re-read some posts and I think because your hospital wants you to seek a second opinion you can ask them to refer to GOSH, that would be the easiest. Though waiting times vary depending on department we were seen on a Thursday (refered on the Monday of the same week) and had surgery the following Monday. Not for gastro problems though but I would say if they consider it urgent they will see you quickly. That's where the referral from your other hospital could come in, they could perhaps flag it as urgent for you? Also once your "in" your child will be seen by GOSH until their 18. I love that predictability! The facilities at GOSH are very good and parents always get to stay with the children though not always in single rooms. The charity and family support team are great too and will help you all out if you get referred there. Best of luck!
