Rat got in house - should I take DCs to get checked out by doctor?

Does anyone have experience with what to do after a rat gets in a house with babies?

DH found it sitting in the kitchen, then it ran outside (we saw it on patio) and we have blocked up a hole we found in wall under decking where we think it got in. Council are going to send a contractor, but I wondered if I should take DCs to see doctor too. I have been scaring myself reading about Weil's disease online, and it doesn't help my paranoia that they both have cold symptoms at the moment. Has anyone ever been given advice for a similar occurrence?

no, I wouldn't. the dc probably come into contact with rat everyday when out playing. just mention the rat in case dc get sick and you take him/her to the gp.

Unless your children have been bitten, I wouldn't worry. Weil's disease is from urine infected water, so I doubt your children would have had any contact.

I think you can relax tbh.

Weil's disease doesn't present with cold symptoms (snotty nose etc
) but with severe flu-like symptoms. Water is also the usual route of transmission - infected rat pisses in stream/lake and people swallowing the water or playing in it with open cuts on hands etc are at risk. Having said that, it's pretty rare.
