Large lymph node and night time disturbance

A bit of background first

DS 7yrs has always been fit and healthy, he had a bout of Lymphadenitis at 2yrs but recovered well with IV antibiotics.

In Sept 10 he became ill with sore throat, so bad he couldn't open his mouth (told it was probably viral) then he started to bleed from his bottom. ?constipation due to change in diet-sore throat, given cream to apply however his stools were always soft and the amount of blood completely covered the toilet paper each time he went. His bottom got so sore he couldn't sit down.
GP started keeping an eye at this point as he had a lymph node that was about 2cm, then his verucca on his toe burst, green pus poured out and in 10 mins his toe was red and swollen and it was travelling up his foot. Out of ours gp gave antibiotics and over a week everything cleared up.
Back to see GP (as he requested) and Lymph node was still large so he did blood tests, these came back ok except slightly raised CRP (no surprise really with all he'd gone through) but GP did a two week referral to ENT.
ENT are now keeping an eye as all blood tests were clear but DS has had 2 more episodes of being totally exhausted for a week and not getting out of bed so took him back to GP on Fri who felt this Lymph node (as I have too) and it is now 3cm and a lot harder, he is repeating blood tests and asked the paediatricians to look at him (no referral, by phone as he was under them previously), we will see ENT again in March.

Firstly I'm worried sick (previous hospital lab worker so allsorts going round my head) and would like to know good or bad if anyone else has dealt with this.

Secondly DS seems to have started sleepwalking but I forgot to mention to GP, do you think it's relevant and I should? Basically in the last few weeks he is waking in the evening or middle of the night screaming help me or sobbing, he won't approach me though as if he is terrified of me. When I do get him to come for a cuddle his is stone cold to touch but sweaty and he just stares with blank eyes (that remind of the way they looked after 2 febrile convulsions as a toddler)doesn't speak and doesn't appear to understand me (when I say come on lets go to your room for example he'll start wandering aimlessly again) his pillow is always wet through too.

Sorry for the long post this has been building up and I can't sleep now for worrying about him.

Thanks clarie

How soon are you seeing the paediatricians? It is so hard not to worry when you have medical knowledge and your children are unwell.
I would push to see paeds asap and mention about the wet pillow etc and get your mind put at rest or at least an answer as to what is going on as the worry is worse than knowing I think.
I have been going through a similar thing with dd for the last 10 months, big node, tired, raised crp and everything else normal. All been put down to a weird viral thing but like you I had all sorts in my head.

clarie · 06/02/2011 21:03

Oh good so your dd is fine now? I'm glad about that.

Did it go down of it's own accord? Did she ever have any other tests?

It is hard as you just want to take it all away from them.

Thank you for your reply.

Should have said GP phoned and left message asking them to ring me with appt but also gave me the phone number and said I can chase it up by the middle of the week if I've not heard.

Luckily GP knows me from my lab work (when I was level headed and not stressed)

Dd is ok but still pale and a bit tired. They did a blood film and bloods for every virus under the sun, chest x rays etc. We were just sent on our way after a week in hospital. I suppose the next step would be to biopsy the lymph node but I'm just seeing how things go now.
I hope things go well for you.

Knackeredmother · 06/02/2011 21:18

Oh, was told it can take months for the node to go down.

clarie · 07/02/2011 18:14

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease a bit GP had said it should take 3 to 6 weeks to go down and being there since sept is a lot longer than that.

DS had bloods done today and I'm going to chase paeds on Weds.

How old is your DD? I wonder if they get suseptible around a certain age?
