I have kept him off school and just given him food, he is tucking in now but wheezing a lot. Does he need a doctor?

My little boy (2 next week) woke up with what I guessed was croup last night. DD has had it a few times and had to go to hospital twice and last time (last summer) was admitted she was so bad.

I was pretty panicked last night at DS seemed really bad and DH was away. I hate bothering the medical centre staff (we live abroad on a compound) but in the end my instinct was to call the on duty emergency nurse. Ended up going to med centre around midnight and he was put on nebuliser and his oxygen levels (I think?) were tested and I was told he was borderline having to go to hospital (which really panicked me as hospital a long drive and I can't drive here and didn't know where our BUPA cards were etc)
Thank god the nebuliser did the trick and he went back to sleep but at around 5am he was bad again and a few hours ago I had to nebulise him again (we bought a nebuliser after DD had it but didn't have the solution you put in it so nurse gave me one dose) He slept for a few hours but seems worse again (barking cough) and I know I'm in for a bad night (pretty sure it gets worse at night) so have just left a message with med centre asking for some more of the liquid to put in nebuliser for during the night. (Do not want to be carrying him and dragging DD out of bed to walk to med centre at midnight again!)

So, short answer, yes, try to see doctor/nurse if he has that barking cough, just to be on safe side or phone NHS direct?
Hope he is better soon

Yes, with croup it's not wheezing it's called stridor, it is a different part of the system that is affected. If it's bad enough it may need treating with steroids. As I found out complete with a night in hospital last winter with my DS. Definitely get him checked and keep a really close eye on him in the evening if you do get sent away because it can get worse and that's the point we ended up in hospital (having seen the GP earlier that day and told he was ok Hmm). I took him to the walk in centre because I thought I was overreacting but they sent us straight over to the children's ward and he was admitted. Got a ride in an ambulance car and everything!

He has had some tea and seems okay now, wheezing has stopped. I will read your link now, thank you.

Fab, if he's bad tonight or you are concerned about his breathing do take him to A&E, the steroids work wonders, my DS went from really struggling to breathe to right as rain in about 10 minutes.

He is asleep now but pale. I will see how he is in an hour.

DS2 is still not well. He had a sleep, pale when he got up, temp was 38.1 and he is sniffling now. I don't feel he needs a doctor but am I missing something?

I was up in the night with ds. He had complained of neck ache yesterday and again this morning. He was soaking wet last night and I think it was a mixture of sweat and wee though his temp was only 37.1. He felt a lot hotter than that so gave him 5ml of calpol. He has only just woken up which is later for him.

TBH with you, it's been going on for so long now, I would see a GP to be on the safe side.

I am hoping to get an appointment this week with him, thanks.
