DS being referred for eye op. Easiest way to descibe it is like squint correction op but done on both eyes at the same time. He has nystagmus and they are doing this to move his null point to a more central position. Any hints and tips on how to prepare him and what to expect post op would be much appreciated. TIA

My DD had this done at 8 months old and she was fine. The discomfort afterwards was minimal (although every child is different). Just keep on top of it with both paracetamol and Ibuprofen. My DD's eye after the op when still in hospital bled a tiny bit, so dont panic if this happens, it is normal.

Also, you may like to tell him that when he wakes up he mustnt rub his eyes and they may feel sore and itcy, but you will be with him all the time , except in the operating theatre and when he wakes up the nurses will call for you and you will be straight down to cuddle him again. Important not to rub eyes as this can break the stitches and so op could have to be done again.
My DS is having circumcision next week and i am not looking forward to the anaesthetic for him . Especially as its will be his 10th one.

Wishing you all the best and if the eye Doc recommends the op for your little one, its the best route to take and his eyes will look so much better in the years to come.
My DD is now 20 yrs old and she has lovely straight eyes.
Buy him a small toy as a reward for being a brave boy.
And as my Dad always says just give him lots of love post OP. xx

Thanks Maltesers, Dh and I know it's for the best and will benefit him greatly in the long run but it doesn't stop you worrying and having doubts.
Hope all goes well with your ds, we have never had to GA with either dd or ds so it is all new to us. Can get the prof point view from family memebers who are drs but nothing beats a mum/dad's point of view.
Looks like the op will be in summer holidays (fingers crossed) but you never know. The hosp said with it being both eyes at once they may try to push it through quicker.
Any other handy hints welcome, also any more first hand knowledge/stories.
Thanks
