she has throuwn everything up and has a lot of pain in her tummy. She is asleep now as she is shattered with it.

I have tried everything - sips of fluid come up even sips of water, when should I worry?

Keep trying to get the fluids down - do you have any rehydration salts? If so, give her sips of these. You can try using a neurofen syringe or similar to squirt 5ml per time into her cheek. It should stay down in very small quantities. Stop trying to feed her - give her stomach a rest for at least 12 hours, she'll eat when she's better.

Keep an eye on her temperature and medicate accordingly.

She needs fluids but not food.

Worst should be over by now.

Sympathies :(

Can you try flat lemonade? Warm it up gently to take the bubbles out of it. Or ice lollies or ice cubes?

Forget about food for at least another 12 hours.

Poor little dd.

Hopefully she will fel better once she has had a good sleep.

Don't let her gulp the water down too quickly. Its better to let her have small sips every 5 mins iyswim than lots in one go as she has more chance of keeping it down.

Hope she is better soon Smile

Ime it very rarely last longer than 24 hours, but do be very cautious and careful about re-introducing foods.

Certainly no dairy or protein tomorrow (including milk) even if she does feel like eating.

Start with plain toast, biscuits like digestives or rich tea, banana, apple.

No juice either.

Good luck!

she woke this morning and gulped down water (i tried to take it off her) which came back up, she is noe sucking a lolly do you think that has more chance of staying down?

My ds is also like this today though seems to be feeling a lot better. He threw up this morning and hasn't since but had very bad tummy pains.

He ate some toast at lunchtime and has had some water only. Hope it is only a 24 hour thing.

LadyDamerel · 29/01/2011 16:16

Ice cubes/lollies are a very good way of getting fluids into dcs with tummy bugs because they don't cause a big rush of fluid into the tummy.

They'll also keep her mouth wet which will stop her feeling as thirsty.

If the lolly doesn;t stay down try ice cubes - smash them up a bit so they're chips as they are easier for little ones to suck.

I second getting in some rehydration powders from your chemist mixing with cooled, boiled water

Set a timer and allow her a sip every 15 mins

No solids until she keeps that down (no probs with not having any solids for a couple of days if on rehydration mix)

When you do re-introduce food stick to:

rice
dry toast

and once that OK

tiny bit chicken and/or white fish with rice

Hope she recovers soon
