Any tips for dealing with baby reflux?

Hi, my dd seems to be suffering from baby reflux (crying when lying flat and occassionally when feeding, coughing and hiccups). Doing all the normal stuff like keeping her upright after feeding and putting moses basket on a tilt. This does seem to be helping but just wondering if anyone has any other tips, I don;t really want to put her on medicine.

Lots of gentle winding after feeds (rub her back rather than pat). How old is she?

She's 7wks old, it's only started in the last few days.

Yeah, that's when DS's started. I know you don't want to medicate but if it continues, do try infant Gaviscon. It's pretty inert stuff, much less 'mediciney' than domperidone etc - it just thickens the milk in their tummies so it's harder to vomit up. I was breast feeding and it was easy to give in a bottle with a smidge of water, before the boob. If you're formula feeding it's even easier, it just goes in the bottle.

You can get lots of advice and products here - good luck; reflux is a pain but it passes and doesn't leave lasting problems in the vast majority of cases Smile

Use a swing for helping keep her upright. If you are BF then try and cut out as much dairy as possible. Agree with mistressploppy you may need medicine. DD is on ranitidine, and she was like a different baby within 2 days. She still suffers but not with the pain aspect.

I think there is a reflux support thread in the bottle and breast feeding topic, so they may be able to help some more.

My DS had reflux as a baby and it so hard at times. Keeping him upright after a feed was what we done- i see your doing that already. Be carefull when burping as mentioned, it can really unsettle there little tummy.

Oh and from experience, take a change of clothes everywhere and a top for yourself. Even when you think DC has grown out of it, they still have little episodes from time to time (IME) x
