Strawberry naevi

Hi DD is 19mo and has 2 strawberry naevi on her shoulder. One is about the size of a 5p piece and looks like it's reduced a little over the last month or so. The other is about 1cm away from the first and is the size of a 50p piece, both very raised but not bumpy. This one doesn't appear to have reduced yet but I noticed in the bath tonight that the
middle of it is a little crusty, this is new. Any ideas if this is normal or anything to be concerned about?

TIA

My daughter had 2 strawberries almost in exactly the same place as i did !! The middle of them started to go a bit white and as time went on i realised this is where they start to fade. She is 12 now and they have completely gone. As she got older and started asking what they were i told her they were special marks so that i knew she was mine. She ended up liking them and happily showed them to other children.

Thanks for the reply. When did they start to fade?

My daughter who is now 5 was born with a slightly raised strawberry the size of a 10p. By the time she was 3 it was gone. Our 3 year old has one on her arm and that is still there and hasn't faded (yet) but we're confident it will..

Hi. I was born prem, and a few days later developed a SN, 34 years ago. It got much bigger, and more raised, and eventually faded, but not until in me early teens. It is on the top of my head, just where my hair starts at my forehead, and even now when i look at it, it still looks 'white'.

Thanks ammadog, any idea about the 'crusty' aspect? Sounds more gross than it actually is, but I wondered if i should get it checked out or if that's just the way they are sometimes?

Don't know anyone else who has any experience of them.

They do go from the middle out, but I dont know about being crusty? Part of the process of them going is that they will get less red in the middle, then greyish, then eventually normal skin colour.

Sometimes big ones can break down a bit and bleed or bleed if they get knocked - do you think the crust could be a sort of scab?

Xpost missjulie. It would be nice for DD if it did disappear as it's in such a prominent place (thinking forward to wearing dresses, swimwear etc) clearly at the moment she's too young to notice, we've just no clue about how common it is for them to disappear or if it's normal for them to change etc.

DD was born 3 weeks early & hers appeared about 2 weeks after birth. GP just said it would most likely vanish over time.

That's interesting evis that they go from the middle out. I wondered that too, about a scab that's what it looks like but there's been no evidence of bleeding on DDs clothes at all.

They do go in time. 50% of children with Strawberries have lost them by age 5.

There is some information here

Great link can't believe I've not come across it before. Thanks.
