6 month old with cold and vomiting

DD suddenly developed a cold last night, and all the mucus running down her throat led to her vomiting (which she's never done before).
I presume this is normal, but just wanted to check in case it's a sign of something more serious? She didn't have a fever. She still wants to feed, so that was reassuring.

I've got a Karvol plug thing in the room, plus have put a bit of Vicks on her clothes, chest area, for her to inhale. I keep trying to get the mucus from her nose with the bulb thingy but she knows it's coming now and struggles!

Can anyone recommend other ways to help her deal with it?

Hi Holly, hope your DD feels better soon, poor little love. It's so horrible when they are sick and still so little. I am sure someone with more experience will come along soon but if there is no temp and she is still feeding, I'd say there is nothing more you can do except keep an eye on her and lots of cuddles. Everything you are doing is exactly what I did when my DD was ill at that age. Not much more you can do.

Hope you are managing to get some rest as well.

We had some spectacular vomits when my dd had colds - mostly over me! She would also usually want to go straight back and feed and the second round would often stay down having got rid of the mucus the first time! The other thing you can try is seeing if you can raise the head of her cot a bit for bedtime. But no, there isn't much you can do for colds. When she was younger this was the only time we co-slept, so I could also sleep more upright and prop her up a bit but it's not a great way to sleep! Hope she feels better soon as it's rotten when they have colds.
