Sore Jaw

Wondering if anyone else has a child who has had this?

DD9 was in a fair bit of pain yesterday with a sore jaw -she said she yawned and it clicked and was now very sore. TBH I didn't take it too seriously -but as the day went on she was finding it difficult to eat and said it was sore to speak.

Set her to bed last night after some calpol and she slept ok but this morning is very sore again -crying and finding it sore to talk. I have decided to keep her off school and will phone the doctors surgery for an appt when it oppens at 8:30.

There is no major swelling but the side of her face does look a wee bit swollen ( not sure if I'm imagining it or not).

I really don't like our Doctor -he poo pooed us over our concerns when we thought DD had a learning difficulty (we were right) then he misdiagnosed a hip problem as a knee problem and DD was in agony and was in a wheelchair for much longer that she would have been if diagnosed correctly in the first place.

Any time we've been (which isn't often) he's made us feel as though we are wasting his time.

So I suppose what I'm wondering is has anyone's LO ever had this and am I overreacting by taking her to the doctors???

Sidenote- IRL I am a confident, outgoing, successful business woman but this doctor always makes me feel like a complete idiot!!!

Try googling physiotherapy for jaw. Mine was clicking and locking last week and my friend suggested a couple of things but now I can't remember what they were! Really helped though.

Sounds like its worth seeing a different GP!

Thanks OpenAmyrillis,

Luckily my own GP was busy and we got another lovely doctor -turns out it was a dislocation of the Temporomandibular Joint (?!?) - apparently it does happen from time to time and after a big yawn isn't uncommon ...she's ok but on a liquid diet for a few days.

Am so glad I went!
