has anyone else had experience with dc's having this.

dd prescribed ventolin for cough at 10 months but as no wheeze i beginning to wonder if it could be whooping cough as the cough is very similar and in between she is fine.

Yes my DS2 had Whooping cough aged 18 months..

Does your DD have a definite 'Whoop' when breathing in while coughing-almost from the throat rather than chest?..Also lips can go blue, and sticky saliva when coughing..

I remember it well. What are your DDs symptoms?

Hi jellykat..poss missed you but it sounds similar to dd. She does have a kind of whoop but it is like a mucusy drool at the end of the fit and like she run out of breath before she gasps then cries. My other dd had whooping cough and it was a definate whoop but as she was older it was easier to tell.. now tonight the cough hasn't happened yet in a couple of hours so Confused i don't know

Hi babybear, it's really difficult to tell isn't it? The GPs kept saying DS had Croup,of course as it's worse at night they never got to hear the cough itself.. until i taped it,and took it into the surgery for the eldest GP!! He confirmed it, and kept the tape for the younger GPs to listen to..Shock

The thing is unfortunately there is nothing that can be done ultimately as well you know,if you've been thro' it before, other then ease the symptoms with steam(i can remember sitting in the bathroom with bath after bath running),or i was advised, and it helped-to wrap him up warm and go outside into colder damp air for a tiny amount of time (luckily my neighbours DC had had it when younger,so she was very sympathetic when the coughing woke her up,bless her!)..but it is good to have it on the DCs medical records (got a tape recorder?).. DS had it for 9 weeks.

I would say the whoop is probably the same regardless of age,but if it goes on and on,and your DDs chest remains clear, you'll get a real possibility..I do remember DS not being particularly snotty tho'it was all quite dry,and there are some really strong nasty bugs around that i've heard and sound
very whoop like,so with any luck it may be one of those and not last as long.

Sorry,Not much help i know, but good luck,it's totally knackering for you both,
and i feel for you, as it is very scary in the early hours especially! x

thank you jellykat. I did think of taping it on my phone so it is good to know that it is a good idea and it might be listened to.

It is a long illness so hopefully it won't be that. I am totally confused now because ddd wnt to bed last night and didn't cough until 3 am when she coughed for most of the rest of the night Confused and yet not much today??
We have to see how it goes but i do appreciate your time jellykat..thank you Smile

bb- Try and get the eldest GP tho' as he's more likely to have heard Whooping cough before, and be more equipped to tell the difference..
Good luck.
