What do you watch out for? It's vomiting and sleepiness isn't it. Is it ok to let her go down for her normal nap at midday?

TIA

What happened? What part of her head, and onto what? Did she cry immediately?

How is she behaving now?

wukter · 22/01/2011 10:06

Oh God Belgo it was dreadful she fell down the stairs, it was a split second, she cried immediately Dh and I soothed her (crying ourselves) she's acting totally normal now. Allowed a biscuit and Cbeebies. There are 2 bumps out on her forehead. I think she's fine, my mum thinks she's fine but I need to know what to watch out for re the head bang for the next 24 hours.

Lethargy
Confusion
Vomiting
Check irises same size/react to light in the same way

winnybella · 22/01/2011 10:08

How far down did she fall?

belgo · 22/01/2011 10:12

Are they carpeted stairs? How many did she fall down?

My two year old fell down carpeted stairs and was fine; but last year he fell down metal stairs and I took him to the doctor immediately. He was fine though.

wukter · 22/01/2011 10:14

All the way Winny. The stairgate didn't click in properly we were 2 seconds behind her and saw her go down. I'm a bit hysterical to be honest under the calmness probably not helping

They're carpeted stairs. I do think she's fine. I just need to be hyper vigilant for the next 24 hours. Course if i was hyper vigilant in the last half hour...

Don't blame yourself, it sounds like a pure accident. Like you say, just keep an eye on her for the next 24 hours, I would sleep in with her tonight.

wukter · 22/01/2011 10:19

Thanks very much Belgo and Winnybella. She and DH are laughing now playing ball! I'm sure she's fine. I will keep an eye.

If you are at all worried, just take her to the A and E or walk-in centre.
DD fell down the stairs from top to bottom at aged 11 months and didn't have a mark on her, but I panicked and took her to A and E where thay xrayed her. She was fine, thank god, but there is no way that I would have known that.

Just watch out for vomiting, as that could be a sign that she has more serious injuries.

Mssoul · 22/01/2011 10:24

Aw Wukter, don't beat yourself up about it. These things haven to every one. My dd went out the front door in her baby walker and down 3 steps landing on her head. I was beside myself, but as she is now 13 with no discernible long term effects, I have forgiven myself Grin

wukter · 22/01/2011 10:55

Thanks MsSoul and Purepurple for your reassuring stories. She is wandering around now as normal and has eaten some treats snacks and no vomiting or anything else out of the ordinary.

Sounds like your doing everything right :) I am sure she is fine!

Re the nap, its fine to let her sleep as normal, if she sleeps longer than normal just check she still react if you wake her a bit.

sneezecakesmum · 22/01/2011 12:00

Also gently rouse her 4 hourly through the night to get a normal response as it was quite a significant fall. Poor you it must have been a nightmare!
