Weepy cradle cap

My three and a half month DS has cradle cap which is getting worse and worse. It started weeping about 2 weeks ago so we used Detinox shampoo on the advice of a pharmacist. It was getting redder and redder so I went to GP who advised using capasal and also gave me some hydrocortisine cream as there are some patches which are exzema.

He is scratching it a lot and everytime I wash his hair it weeps more. I was wondering if anyone knows if I should be washing it every day? At the moment I'm alternating between capasol and olive oil soak followed by a wash with a tiny amount of baby shampoo. The capasol still seems quite harsh for every day. It gets so crusty though I don't like to not wash it each day but I'm wondering if I'm stopping it healing.

Thanks.

I'm certainly no expert, but my DS's craddle cap got much better when i stopped using shampoo and used mild baby soap instead. I would especially avoid using Johnson's products as they contain perfume which made my little one's scalp red. I also stopped washing the hair everyday and that seemed to help too. As i say, no expert, but maybe give it a try... hope it improves soon. Smile

thanks adcd - it is Johnson's shampoo I'm using so might look into something different. Think I need to resist the urge to wash it even if it is a bit smelly

I have never used any shampoo or soap on DS (bar the odd pasta in hair incident since weaning) and I promise his hair doesn't smell! Babies don't sweat and their hair doesn't get greasy so they don't really need soap etc before they are weaned/crawling about IMO.

I would just use water and then put as much cream as you can on to help it heal up.

Thanks for the replies. We only started using shampoo as his head was a bit stinky from the cradle cap but maybe JOhnson's was a bad idea. We're now using the aqueous cream to wash his hair (leaving it on thickly for half an hour before his bath) and plastering it on in between and it seems to be healing up and is no longer weepy which is brilliant.
