Is GP right, could it be his adenoids?

My DS is 13 months. Since August he has had an almost constant runny nose and he often gets a cold, with a mild cough and sneezing, runny eyes etc.
Since October he has had 3 ear infections requiring antibiotics.
The GP has refered him to ENT and awaiting an appt as he thinks it could be his adenoids that are causing these problems.
He also gets overly tired and off his food a lot. Not sure if it's linked.

Though he also said it could also be allergies.

He initially thought asthma but his chest is always clear when he listens

So confused.

Yes, could be adenoids (enlarged adenoids certainly wouldn't be helping in terms of colds etc), or allergies. But ear infections, afaik, are not related to allergies.

dd2 had huge tonsils and adenoids, and was exhausted and couldn't eat till they came out. You wouldn't believe the difference.

ENT sounds like a very good idea, good GP!

Sounds like my oldest too. I was very nervous of her having the op but the Doc removed a huge set of adenoids and some tonsils. I had to keep checking on her at night as was so used to hearing her breathing from another room after the op it was all quiet. She was more rested in the morning and not covered in sweat when she woke up.

Thanks ladies.
My GP is very good and doesn't make me feel like a paranoid mummy of a pfb.
I hope we get to the problem soon. The constant runny nose is annoying and he hates having it wiped.
Parsgirl, we can also hear DS at night on his bad days.
Just don't kow how I will feel if he has to have an op.

You will feel very anxious Smile

But if he DOES need an op (and thats a big leap at this point) you will also feel very relieved afterwards. It can make an enormous difference. Your ds is young, my dd was considered pretty young at 23 months (ended up having op at 25 months) but Consultant said any time after 12 months is normal if problematic enough. dd had severe sleep apnoea, though, and was losing weight Sad

Anyway, your ENT referral should clarify things - good luck!

Thankyou, I hope so.
Glad your dd is much better, must have been awful for you at the time.

I was petrified when my DD had her op but she was so much better after it that it was worth the stress. She was 2-1/2 when she had it. My younger DD is about to have an operation on her hip and again I am petrified but it's necessary so I have to sort myself out and be positive for her. Although, at least when they are younger you can hide some of the information from them. Good Luck x
