How normal is it to have a permanant cold at 5 years old?

My 5 year old ds has had what seems to be a permanant cold/ cough for the last 2 months. It peaked the week before Christmas with temperature and vomitting and then he seemed to improve - but has still not really got over it.

Am getting worried about the state of his immune system - could it be anything more sinister?

Docs just tell me "children get 7 colds a year" but it really does seem that the poor child has been up in the night coughing or blowing his nose for months!

I'd say it's normal!

The younger they are, the more colds they get because so many of the germs are new to their immune systems. Having at least one season of non-stop cold is par for the course, I'm afraid.

Try not to worry, and I hope he perks up soon.

There isn't much you can do about colds to hurry them away. There is evidence that Vitamin C can help shorten the life of a cold: not mega doses, just a standard supplement.

has she just started school, is she around a new group of people? then I wouldn*t worry. new circumstances means new bugs...
