Dd1 is getting over the flu, i have come down with it (this morning) and now dd2 Sad.

I am worried sick as dd2 often ends up in hospital when she gets ill due to not being able to control her temp. She has Autism but no other health issues (so did not have the flu jab), she's only 4 (my baby) so i worry about her so much.

At the moment her temp is 39.0, i have given nuforen and calpol but her temp has not budged Sad, i have taken her clothes off and opened a window (only a little because its very windy out). Is there anything else i can do to stop her getting any hotter (her temp often peeks at 41.0). She seems quite alert at the moment, she's led on the sofa but still talking (to herself).

Thanks sneeze, i have put her to bed as her room is the coolest in the house, temp still just under 40 after calpol and nurofen. She doesn't seem too bad in herself, just wants to lie around but is still talking to the TV. I am now in bed (with the laptop) with a temp of 38.7, i feels sooo cold so am fully clothed. I will keep checking on dd, i was hoping her temp would go back down like last night but it doesn't seem to be [sa]. She has been fine today, just a slight cough and slightly off her food but has been playing lego with dd1.

I do tend to panick (dh is telling me not to worry), i find it extra hard with dd2 as she has Autism and can't always tell me how she's feeling and will often refusse to drink, getting meds into her is a night-mare, i used a syringe but she still managed to spit some out so i am unsure how much she has had.

Taking manual pulses of sick children is a nightmare, their pulses are usually racing! thank goodness for machinery! Personally I wouldnt bother as its not going to tell you much except its fast because she's got a fever. I used to use a stethescope on the chest with babies before our machines got reliable and my eyes would cross trying to count - try counting 120 - 160 beats per minute Shock

Probably the respiratory rate is a better indicator of how well the child is coping - look on UTube for pictures of chest rescession - if you ever see the like its 999!!!

Paracetamol suppositories are brilliant for spitty out children or babies or pukey ones. But even most NT childrin would freak at this so probably bit unrealistic. They usually have to be so sick not to give a monkeys. Good for babies though.
