foods to eat with sickness/diahorrea

DD seems perfectly well most of the time - energetic, good appetite - but is having explosive diahorrea about every 48 hours and nothing inbetween. This has been going on since last week and I'm not sure what to do. She's off school again - after exploding in class - I thought she was better as no symptoms over last weekend - and am now not sure what to feed her (or how to get any work done but that's another problem).

What kinds of food are best? - I cut out dairy and animal protein yesterday morning and she is already bored and moaning about veggie risotto and pasta in tomato sauce (no cheese) and no treats whatsoever. Unfortunately she is a real carnivore who prefers beef/chicken/fish to anything else.

Any ideas? I'm staying off most fruits too as I thought they could be too acidic though she is getting bananas.

Poor thing. Have you consulted the doctor (telephone consultation may be best or they may ask you to come in at a time when waiting room isn't packed full!)

If she has been ill for a week or more perhaps it is an infection and could be treated. She may well need dioralyte?

my DS is only 3, but I recall reading somewhere that you should try to give children fairly plain foods if they have an upset stomach.
E.g.
Buttered toast.
Rice pudding.
Grilled chicken breast.
Bananas.
Mashed potato.
Boiled egg.

And lots of water / diluted juice, but no milk until their bowels are back to normal.

Hope your DD is better soon.

rice cakes, crackers, white bread, anything really plain and bland and lots of water (little sips at the time to prevent vomitting).
Hope she is better soon.

thanks all - we shall soldier on, perhaps literally with the boiled egg suggestions. Will give her some chicken tomorrow which will cheer her up, but keep it all as plain as possible. Both my children are true carnivores and like things spicy or garlicky- still you never know, either or both could decide to be vegetarians in the future.

I do wish she would drink more - she never does much - had reflux as a baby and has never been keen on drinking. Having said that I don't think she is dehydrated - wees are normal.
