infected cradle cap

I took DD to GP with a bad cough and he prescribed antibiotics but he also said she had infected cradle cap and gave topical antibiotic ointment (Bactroban) for it. It doesn't seem to be clearing up though and looks really sore and weepy. She also rubs her head to itch it quite a lot. We went on Wednesday and I am surprised it has not started to clear up. Anyone else with any experience of this?

My DS had infected cradle cap when he was just a couple of weeks old. It was horrible and spread all over his face and neck too. He was given a steroid cream which had to applied thinly every four hours. It took about a week but it did eventually clear up. Good luck

Im wondering if i should ask for a different cream as it doesn't seem to be working and in fact the red areas are spreading

My daughter started having cradle cap from 2weeks of age and now 3months. after using olive oil, baby shampoo etc I tried dentinox, which made things worse. Now her cradle cap is infected and I had to go to emergency, Dr prescribed antibiotics. The scalp is sticky and weepy and I have stopped using everything on there, can anyone suggest whether I can use anything on the scalp to get the itching down a bit and help my poor baby?? many thanks

ask doc if they will precribe oilatum junior shampoo or if tgel is ok for that age

You probably need steroid cream - hydrocortisone.

Anti-fungals usually work on cradle cap, but presumably it is beyond this stage.
