8 week old with cough, cold, not eating much - what to do?

My 8wo has a phlegmy sounding cough, is making lots of snuffling noises when he breathes, doesn't want to eat and is very grumpy - I can't put him down. But no fever. His sister is just getting over a cold with a cough and low fever, so I guess he might have caught that. He's been sleeping on a raised bed for the past few nights and I'm squirting saline solution up his nose. Is there anything else I can do to help him? Should I be taking him to the doctor or is it too early?

If he isn't eating then I would definitely seek medical advice.

My 4 week old has a cold and I phoned the health visitor about it. She said if they are eating and don't have a temperature then try not to worry. However, not eating is what they tend to go on to assess how poorly they are.

I would perhaps call HV or GP or even NHS direct.

It sucks doesn't it. I hate all the noises they make when they are so bunged up and there is nothing you can do for them.

Definitely sucks yep. Especially when they're so little. He's been off since yesterday. Just took his temp again and it was 37.1 under the arm. Am not in uk and i think my only option now is hospital or wait until tomorrow for doctor's appointment.

Not sure how different an underarm temperature is to an ear temperature which is what we use. I did a quick google and it seems to be approx 1 degree lower which means that your DS has a slight fever of 38. In an 8 week old you need to get him seen. Any fever in an under 3 month old is taken seriously.
