5 week old gagging and vomiting phlegm

My ds is 5 weeks tomorrow and has been snuffly since birth. However last week we stayed with family for Xmas and all came down with a nasty cold/ cough. Poor ds caught the cough and has been very mucusy ever since.

I've been worried as almost every time he feeds now, when I burp him mid feed, he makes a strange sound, followed by a big gag, and on several occasions a massive projectile vomit which has loads of mucus/ phlegm in it.

Should I take him to the doctors or is this 'normal' for babies who have colds

He is now eff but up til having this cough didn't really posset or vomit at all

Thanks

I would take him to to the Doctors or ring NHS Direct.
Throwing up feeds is a sympton of the RSV virus which is very common this time of year in young babies.
Hope he recovers soon.

i would take him to the doctors. is he feeding ok- is he struggling to feed? is he breathing ok?
is the mucus green?

lainey1981 · 02/01/2011 21:02

Thanks

I called nhs the other day who were no help and just told me I would get a call back within 2 days Confused

He is feeding fine, though slightly more erratically, sometimes taking a full feed of 4.5 ozs sometimes on eating 2 for 2 feeds in a row.

The mucus is green.

His breathing is ok, though he is so stuffed up it's very noisy - am using saline drops which seem to help a little.

Will take him to the Docs tomorrow as he has started to cry a little when he coughs too. Hope they will see me as haven't got round to registering him there yet,

if mucus is green, its infection. Has he a temperature?

lainey1981 · 02/01/2011 21:19

No, no temperature thank goodness. And he does seem ok in himself, apart from the first day (when I called nhs direct) where he slept for 7 hours in the day.

Will def take him to the doctors to or row just hope they will see him even though I didn't get round to handing his registration form in.
