I realise it's NYE and you may all be doing something else...but I wondered if anyone had experience of this?

My dd1 [6] has a cold, with streamng eyes and nose.
She has seveloped puffy and red skin under her eyes. It looks ghastly and she is so pale and ill looking.

I wonder if I should put something on them? Could it be a sort of dermititis [sp?] from the tears, or an actual infection?
Poor thing, she looks a mess.

is there any history of excema in your family - i only ask because a nasty cold can sort of throw up these latent things.Doesn't mean she will develop it badly or at all if the answer is yes BTW

I know it looks horrid (poor child) but the best thing is a cold flannel, it will settle as the cold goes. Problem is there is nothing really to treat the under eye area for excema (normally we use hydrocortisone) especially in children. Hydrocortisone NOT appropriate here.

I work as a Healthcare advisor and suffer from under eye excema myself since childhood - in case you were wondering X
Er,apart from that, happy new Year, if that is appropriate!

Thank You frecklspeckly, especially as I haven't been back to check up on answers. I read yours on New Years Day night, but was really wiped out after work and needed to get to bed for the next day at work.

Off now, so caatching up on some mn!

So yes, dd1 does have eczema, on the back of her knees usually. She has generally dry bumpt skin, but her knees are the only place that randomly flare into red angry areas.

We use Aveeno, hydrocortisone occasionally, and olive oil mostly. I did wonder about putting hydrocortizone in her face, but didn't.

Now I think about it, if I cry or have watering eyes, my skin burns nad itches like mad. So it mudt be the same for her.
I just used a vegetable based balm on her undereye area, to try put some moisture and form a barrier. Poor thing, she looks a mess. It is getting better though.

Any one any other ideas? The cold flannel is a good one thanks. SHe let me put some eye drops in too, which helped with the constant watering too.
