Dd has had a bad cough for a week or so. We have all had (confirmed) flu and ds had a chest infection which only showed up on an x ray.

So....dd is 13 weeks, the cough yesterday was causing her to have bouts of coughing which made her very sick. I took her to the docs today and he said we could start her on amoxycillin or wait another 24 hours. Her chest sounded clear.

we started her on them mainly because she couldnt get her immunisations again this week because of this virus and I just wanted to make sure we got rid of it if it had went into a bacterial infection as she's had no jags and I didnt want it dragging on longer than necessary.

She took the first dose this morning, all fine though did have runny nappy at 4pm.

She had her second dose at 7pm and brought it all back up. She was put on erthrymycin 2 weeks ago for crackly chest but we had to stop it (on docs advice) as she was sick when having it and had v v v watery stools. Her chest was sounding clear by that point (6 doses (1.5 days) of antib).

I will give her her next dose in the morning but if she sicks it up again what should I do? I am concerned if she has this with each antibiotic then how would we get her better if she got a bad infection?

Given that her chest sounds clear would you worry about the antibiotics at all? Ds's chest also sounded clear but x ray showed otherwise but he had a raging and uncontrollable fever.

Bit confused!

Oh and Xmas was effectively cancelled last week and we are meant to be going away to a small and remoteish place this weekend for hogmanay where we will be 1.5/2 hours from a decent hospital.

DS had a cough that was on and off for about 4 weeks (he's 14 months). We got amoxycillin which did nothing but give him runny poos. Went back and got an inhaler - he did have a crackly chest though - which cleared it up very quickly.

Could she be reacting to the amoxycillin or something in it, making her sick?

So to answer your question - I wouldn't bother with them because if the cough is caused by a virus, they wont be doing anything!

She has reflux anyways and it would seem a very sensitive gag reflex. However, tonight she did actually keep it down for a few mins and then looked as if she 'felt' sick iyswim? normally with reflux she just vomits and barely notices even though its across the other side of the room!

The flu could also be making her sick. Only way that babies can shift the phlegm. Call docs in the morning and discuss your concerns with one of nurses or a doc. Hope Lo bit better by then

Could it be an allergic reaction? I'd be careful and stop just in case.

Think im going to call docs today. Gave her a dose this morning and she choked on it really badly and I had to hit her back to get her breathing again - was terrifying.

doc says to continue rather than stop a course

she has had 2 watery stools now and is sick with them :(

her chest is clear but tubes sound rattley apparently, she certainly sounds mucussy when she breathes.

This is shit.

If shes rattly, can he give her an inhaler? That's why we got one (a blue one) - or is she too young? That worked much better than ABs which just made DS miserable and didn't work as most coughs are viral :(

TheUnmentioned · 31/12/2010 09:05

who knows, it is a mucussy sound iyswim rather than a wheeze
