OK, so ds2 was born nearly 6 weeks ago, and he is just gorgeous.

However, in the hospital it was noted that it looks like he has teeth behind his front gums - they do not look like teeth buds, but like white squares on the front of his top gums.

He was examined by a specialist who said there is no evidence that they are teeth, and that it's extra/enlarged gum tissue. But every single midwife and/or helath visitor has said it'll be his teeth. So theyre all contradicting each other.

His gums are quite large, but I dont know who to believe regarding what these white squares are. I am not worried, as such, as he is so beautiful, and is clearly not in any discomfort, BUT I am only slightly worried in case it may cause a problem later, by which time it may be too late/painful/difficult to rectify.

I dont know if that explains it well, but I cannot find any information on the internet, and wondered if anyone had seen/heard of this, and what the outcome was?

thanks, all! x

They're contradicting each other: if the midwife/hv has said they will be his teeth, but aren't yet.

my DD had this- never really thought about it to be honest- but now her front teeth are through they dont seem to be there any more- hmm well havent noticed them anyhow- will go and have a look.....

Sorry, that should say they're NOT contradicting each other.

bodyofeeyore, I maybe worded it badly - midwives are dismissing it as being teeth and specialist is saying there is no evidence that they are teeth at all. I didnt mean they will become teeth - just that they are being dismissive about it, and that it's teeth.

In addition, there was a queue of nurses/consultants etc at my bedside at one point, just to have a look as theyd never seen this before.

Thandeka, are you able to describe what your daughters front gums were like? I'm not sure I'm explaining this very well :)
