Adult tooth breaking through gum but baby tooth still there!

Help! Have just seen my sons new adult tooth breaking through the surface of his gum (lower front) behind his baby tooth but his baby tooth is just only a little bit wobbly and nowhere near ready to come out.

Am guessing this is a trip to the dentist for advice but just wondered if anyone knew what course of action is taken, if any?

Thanks Confused

My dd had this on one of her front teeth. The big tooth ended up pushing the baby tooth into a right-angle position! It came out eventually.

I doubt the dentist will do anything at all. Once the baby tooth has gone, the adult tooth will move to fill the space I expect.

I had this with a molar. It came out further and further but would not go! The dentist was reluctant to do anything every time I visited so in the end I lied and told him it hurt, and he pulled it out. There is a tiny tiny tiny gap between the slow grower and the tooth behind it. The only difference being is that it's easier to floss. You can't see anything at all.

That happened with one of DS's teeth. All it meant was that he didn't have a gap when the baby tooth came out.

It's fine. My 7yr old DS1 has only lost his two bottom teeth so far and the adult teeth had been through for a bit before they came out. He had a bit of a lithp with all those teeth though!

I had this as a child - ended up with my adult tooth behind my baby tooth. when it hadnt come out by the time I had braces at 12, the dentist pulled it out.

This happened with my dds first tooth lost,a couple of months ago. When the wobbly one fell out the other moved forward to fill the gap,I think its normal for this to happen. She has just lost a second tooth and this time the new one was rather more underneath than behind.

DDs first two wobbly teeth were like this (bottom front ones) and our dentist ended up pulling them out for her. They had been wobbly for months though, and the adult ones had come completely through, so she had nothing pushing against the old ones. We called them her shark teeth Grin The Dentist isn't doing anything about the positioning of the new ones (which are too far back really) as they should reposition themselves naturally.

Wow thank you all for such speedy replies! Thought it would be really quiet around here atm!

Rightio, will try and get wobbling the baby tooth and maybe ring the dentist just to check but am feeling much more relaxed now Grin. Thank you Smile
