DD 11 month has croup. Today she has had 4 poos all of them being very dark green, what do dark green poos mean? Also she is on asprin and I am concerned that dark green may mean internal bleeding, is this the case - Anyone know?

why is she on asprin? far as i remember, dark green is something fairly common...cant remember what it menas though but dont think its bad!

mummytopebs · 27/12/2010 21:21

She is on asprin as she has a blood clotting disorder and blood vessel disorder

Has she been eating blueberries? They always seemed to result in dark green poo IME. I expect there are other foods that can have the same effect. I think bleeding causes more blackish poo? But if she already has health issues, I would check with GP/NHS.

oh ok, perhaps you should check it out with your GP tomorrow? If it helps, i definately remember one of mine having dark green poo for a couple of days, it just went away

hello, if she has a blood clotting disorder then is she known to the hospital? you could give the childrens ward a call for advice, don't think green poo has anything to do with internal bleeding, you would see obvious red streaks/clots if that was the case but do think you need to be extra careful if she already has health issues. How bad is the croup? have you seen someone about it? sounds like she is under the weather in general bless her, don't sit there worrying though, call NHS direct if it will help to reassure you thats why they're there :) HTH

dd has taken aspirin since a baby. She did have green poo but usually because her digestive system was a bit off when in CHF. Considering the reason she's been prescribed it I wouldn't bother with NHS direct as I think they'd be unable to advise TBH and probably put you in even more of a panic. Are you giving it on after a feed/meal. Can you speak with her consultant tomorrow?

elbie · 27/12/2010 21:42

on second thoughts agree with saggm, NHS direct prob will just panic you more if DS already has an underlying health issue, NHS direct they can be a bit useless!!

mummytopebs · 28/12/2010 16:09

Hi thanks everyone I have emailed her consultant today as he is not at work till next week so am waiting for a response from him. Saggar yes I do give it after a meal otherwise it gives her tummy ache.

I did see a doctor regarding the croup who told me what to look out for etc, and thankfully she seems much better today re the croup, the cough has turned more chesty now rather than a bark. And yes I do agree that nhs direct arent very good if babies have a pre exssisting condition, there advice always seems to be go to hospital, which I dont really want to do it if I can help it$

Is she any better mtp?

mummytopebs · 30/12/2010 20:44

Hi Saggar her cough is still chesty and she has turned wheezy so she has been back to the doctors today and has been started on amoxcillian. Her poo is still dark green and very smelly, her consultant has been in touch and asked for me to take her to the gp. Her tummy feels fine so the gp has took a stool sample just to rule out anything concerning.
