DD is 3, she woke up crying an hour ago. DH went up to check on her and she was half asleep in her bed with the duvet on the floor. She was very cold, very pale and could barely speak. He brought her downstairs and I wrapped her in a blanket and cuddled her. She recovered a bit and told me the duvet had fallen off her bed before she went to sleep Blush So she'd been asleep for about 2 hours just in her jimjams and no duvet on the coldest night ever :(
I gave her something warm to eat (she doesn't do hot drinks) and she asked to go back to bed. She still felt very cold to touch and her voice was still croaky but she's asleep now. Do you think she'll be ok?

I am sure she'll be fine, my DD kicks her duvet off most nights and she is a skinny wee thing, but could you bring her into your bed (if necessary sending DH to hers!) for a night just so you can keep an eye on her and keep her warm with your body heat?

Greythorne · 20/12/2010 22:59

she'll be fine
i second teeny: pop her into your bed (with you in it, too) to keep her warm and cosy

vintageteacups · 20/12/2010 23:01

Not wanting to worry you unecessarily but children find it hard to warm up and cool down so yes, I would definitely have her near your warm body. Give her a hot water bottle and put socks on her. If she is skinny anyway, it'll be harder for her to keep warm. Put a blanket over her, then the duvet.

Rindercella · 20/12/2010 23:02

Definitely second (or third!) cuddling up to her to keep her warm. Watch out for the elbows/knees/feet in your back though Wink

Is her bedroom that cold?

vintageteacups · 20/12/2010 23:03

Could you pop the heating on over night?

AnnieLobeseder · 20/12/2010 23:06

My 2yo kicks her duvet off every night, her legs and feet are like lumps of ice every morning, and on the coldest nights she tucks her legs up and sticks her bum up in the air. But short of stapling her duvet down we're not sure what to do!

Bundle her up nice and warm and she'll be fine.

orangepoo · 20/12/2010 23:08

Stick her in bed with you, she'll be warm and happy.

Tortington · 20/12/2010 23:10

my kids used to do this.

so i bought them sleeping blankets and put the quit on top

not an immediate solutin but one to think about for the future, you can get them for a tenner at argos

MissFit · 20/12/2010 23:12

I just checked on her. She's fast asleep, she feels warmer but still not as warm as normal. I won't move her to our bed now as I don't want to wake her, plus we're not in bed yet. Will check on her again in a bit.

Her bedroom is as warm as the rest of the house, which is still a bit chilly (old house, high ceilings) despite the heating being on.

I bought some elastic with clips attached that go underneath the mattress and attach to the duvet, from somewhere like gltc but it was a few years ago.

MissFit · 20/12/2010 23:31

Her duvet has never fallen off before. In fact I'm not sure how it actually happened as she's in a low cabin bed (it's about waist high off the ground) with wooden sides which stop anything falling off.

She already has a sleeping bag so I'll dig that out tomorrow, she'll love that as she can pretend she's on holiday. That's a good idea thanks :)

have you got a hot water bottle you can tuck in there? Have you got a bigger duvet. we have one for dd and she lies on top of half of it and we wrap her up like a sausage roll which means she can only get out of one side iyswim.

Clair100 · 21/12/2010 19:16

Instead of normal jim jams I put my DS to sleep in thermal underwear in the cold weather. M&S do long sleeved thermal tops and long johns (for boys and girls) so even if the covers do come off he is still cosy and warm

MistleToad · 21/12/2010 19:28

DS is 3 and a duvet- kicker!

I put him to bed in a fleece sleepsuit with feet, and sometimes a vest underneath, so he's warm even when he kicks the duvet off.

ebay have lots of new ones for sale, Asda and Primark are also reasonbly priced.

Do you use sheets? I tuck my dd who is 3 nice and tight with a warm flannelette sheet, then her duvet then a blanket. Nice and toasty. Stops her falling out too!
