Reduced appetite with a cold..?

My daughter (age 5) has had a cough and runny nose this past week and I've noticed that her appetite has reduced (i.e she's not eating breakfast, doesn't rush home from school and want to eat etc.). Today she hasn't eaten at all but she has had drinks.

Is this normal...I eat loads when I'm poorly so can't work out why she is not eating.

DS (2.6) who normally has a huge appetite is the same.

As long as they are well hydrated I think they will be fine.

My dd (now 4.5) has always been the same. Drives me bonkers as she's only a skinny thing to start with. Once she had flu (real flu!) and then norovirus soon after - by the time she recovered you could use her ribs as a xylophone! Blush Shock She did eat like a horse after that and put it all back on though.

I give her ice cream and strawberries if she's like this, at least I know she will attempt to eat some of it, also ice lollies, especially if she has sore throat / temp.

There is a bug at the moment which causes raised temp, headache and nausea, and lost appetite. I have had it and haven't had my usual (healthy!) appetite for a few days, it's only just coming back now. So it might well be something like that. DD has had it too, Calpol and Nurofen helped bring her temp down. Hope your DD is better soon.

I shall try to ignore your last post OP Grin

If her nose is blocked, her sense of taste will be reduced so she won't want to eat as much.

In other circumstances I'd suggest a curry/spicy food but perhaps not.
