Excuse the probable rambling and typos but I've only had six hours sleep since wednesday night....

Ds 9 months spiked a high temp on Wednesday night of 40.1 he also vomited but no diarrhoea. We called ooh who said it was prob tummy bug and just ride it out. In the morning his temp was normal and he seemed fine if a little pale.

Then last night the same thing happened, high temp wanting to be bf all night, discomfort when laid flat so had to cradle him all night. He then vomited at 3.30 am. He has had a slightly mucous poo but they look like normal bf poos. He has had no solids since Wednesday.

This morning his temp is normal but his super cranky, pale and tired. Called gp who said it's a virus but seems to me to be a bit inconsistent iyswim as he is only really poorly at night.

Does calpol/calprofen bring his temp down? There are some nasty bugs going around. DS had something similar (no vomiting) and we took him in to have his chest checked as he sounded crackly too. Doc wasn't too worried as he was getting fluids in (how are his nappies?)

I'd keep an eye on him every day and if he gets worse, call OOH.
It took DS about 4 days to get over the worst.

Thank you iggly. Yes calpol does bring it down. He is drinking loads and his nappies are heavy with wee. He's asleep now. He's so pale and I'm really worried. His chest is fine and he's not bungee up.

I always find that whenever my dd aged 6 is ill it tends to be worse at night. In fact I can't think of a time when she has vomited during the day. There is def a sickness bug doing the rounds. It does actually sound consistent with what your gp said to me.

The BF will be helping him - best thing you can do really! As long as he's awake, alert (if grumpy) then he should be alright soon.

It's horrible when they're ill :(

Some doctors say that if high temperature is during the night and okay during the day it is a viral infection, if temperature stays high during day and night or does not respond to medication it is more likely to be bacterial (and may need anti-biotics). However, when DH had swine flu last year he had high temperature during day and night (and it was a virus, confirmed swine flu) and it did not come down with paracetamol and nurofen but only with tamiflu. I agree keep monitoring and make sure he drinks enough, even if he throws up some will stay in, so lots of little sips rather than a long drink. Hope he gets better soon.
