DS says ge feels like he's being stabbed in his chest with glass

Final health question of the night!

DS has mentioned a few times now that he feels a stabbing with glass pain in his chest. I ignored him Blush mostly as I thought it was probably just one of those things.

Anyway, he hasn't gone on about it at all but then when we were swimming he suddenly stopped in his tracks and was saying oww and grabbing his chest. He just said "it's okay mummy, it's just that glass thing, it's gone now" and then carried on swimming.

I asked him to show me where it hurt and he pointed to his right upper chest.

Do you think I should worry about this in a 9 year old boy?

Probably worth checking out - but just as a possible explanation, I remember distinctly getting heart burn for the first time at about that age. I was absolutely terrified and thought I was dying. I hope it's nothing serious

Could be an intercostal muscle thing - would get it checked out though. He might even have a cracked rib!

threefeethighandrising · 15/12/2010 23:57

Yes, I think you should get it checked out.

It could well be nothing but I think it's a good idea for peace of mind.

Could be easily one of the things other posters mentioned, but I think if I were you I would go to the doctor and ask him for a chest x-ray, ECG etc- just to be on a safe side.

Thanks. I've started another thread about him just before this one. He has a funny rib/possible scoliosis, but the rib is the last lower one. I wonder actually if the twisted body is linked to this.

I have this last few months gone from worry free children health wise to a DD with a heart murmour and hypermobility and DS with twisted torso and chest pain.

I don't want to turn into mad googling woman.

Any torsioning of the spine can cause strain on other parts of it, and could be pulling on the ribs and associated intercostal muscles, especially on exercise. Definitely worth getting checked out, as the longer any torsion is left, the harder it is to fix it (if it's that).
