Grommet OP - stay away from other children afterwards?

DD2 (20mo) is having grommets fitted next week. The surgeon said she'd be fine to go to nursery the next day, but I have just googled a bit and read some advice that said keep them at home for a couple of days to reduce risk of infection. She also has her nursery Christmas party a few hours after the OP. I was going to take her if she's happy in herself, but would that be a bad idea? Any advice welcome!

DD had hers done about a year ago, she was back at school the next day. She is older though, was 8.6 when she had them in.
I'd speak to the surgeon about the party, TBH, although it's a small surgery she may not feel up to partying.

ds has had loads of grommets, he always went back the following week,(op on a thursday) but most kids went back the next day.
she most likely won't feel like a party though

If she's not happy, then I won't take her... although DD1 will be disappointed because it will mean no Mummy there.

But is there a risk that DD2 might catch an infection there?

There's a risk your DD will catch an infection anywhere TBH. Just be sensible and you'll be fine.
I would not bank on being at the party, IME children are generally a bit dopey following a GA.

no advice - just wanting to wish your DD good luck & hope that the grommets work

DD2's ear infections have now returned with a vengeance, back on AB's, but if that doesn't hold them off than we may still be following you down the grommet road Sad

Thanks everyone! Good luck to your DD too, Oricella. I have this funny feeling that the grommets won't sort the problem out... don't know why. Maybe I am just being overly pessimistic.

hi my dd had grommits in Sept and they took her adanoids out too, they said she had to stay off for 1 week to avoid infection but im thinking this was more for the adanoids side of it. they have really helped her hearing i just hope they stay in long enough as she hates wearing the earplugs in the bath etc, just a suggestion the blue squidgy ear plugs you can get from boots are really good as you can break them up to make just the right size for thier ear. Good luck its more scary for us parents than it is for the children, and im sure she will be fine for the party .

just a word of warning about the party - DS1 was extremely sensitive to noise after both his grommit ops - your DD may find it a bit overwhelming or even painful. if you do take her to the party stay close and get ready to clamp your hands over her ears if everyone starts shouting etc

hope it goes well - we were really pleased with the outcome for our DS

Just wanted to let you all know it was all fine, DD2 is happy and bouncing around after her OP this morning and we took her to the party because she seems absolutely fine. She loved it Smile

Thanks all for your support!
