2 Year Old Vomiting for a Week

Hi everyone, starting to get stressed and off to gp this morning but wondering if anyone had any experience/ideas about what might be going on.

DD1 is 2.10 months and was ill with vomiting all day Wed and Thurs last week. She seemed to pick up by teatime Thurs and had some toast. Since then she's been quiet and has ate little but been up and playing etc... However by 4-5pm she starts to get clingy and sleepy and quite twisty and then throws up most of the food she's eaten. After that she picks up a little and then feels hungry by the morning. She's done this every night except Saturday, when she was sleeping at sils as dd2 (6 months) was rushed to hospital. DD1 is also on abs for an ear infection and waiting on results from a urine culture as no diarrhoea.

Panicking as dd2 was taken to hospital with severe dehydration and vomiting blood after vomiting for 2 days. :(

No idea, but sounds awful for you.

Could be Novovirus - have you told you GP's surgery why you are coming in? They may want to put you in a different waiting room so as not to infect other patients.

How is your DD1 now?

MmeLindt · 07/12/2010 08:51

Oh, meant to ask about DD2 as well. Is she still in hospital?

cherrybea · 07/12/2010 08:55

No haven't told the surgery, didn't think about that but we've been is a family several times last week with vomiting and it wasn't mentioned.

DD2 is fine now, they pushed some fluid in and put her on a drip over night and she picked up almost immediately. Came home last night after drinking and keeping down 7 bottles!!! Thanks for asking :)

Oh, I only went back to work part time on the 15th November after ML, I've already lost a week with snow and now had to take Monday off with dd2 being in hospital. Would IBU to request a sick note from the gp, I don't feel like I'm coping with the lack of sleep and stress and haven't had time to do any prep work despite the time off already. I'm a teacher btw.

I would ask for a sick note from GP. You cannot be expected to care for two sick children and then be fit for work.

Thanks again MMeLindt, been to gp and he examined her and said as he can't find any physical reason for the vomiting it's ok to leave her for another week Shock. Urine results came back normal which was a relief.

I asked about a sick note and he said I had to self-certify for 7 days before he would issue one. I've already done that for 2 and only have 5 left till christmas hols so will see how it goes. Will probably go in though, feel guilty for not.

Have they tested for salmonella or novo? Not sure if they can test for that via urine, thought it would have to be a stool sample.

He doesn't sound particularly helpful, tbh.
