Hi I was hoping someone with similar experience might be able to help me. I have just been emailed some results of a chest xray for my 11 month old ds and have to wait until my appointment to find out what it means but in the mean time I was hoping someone could give me an explanation if possible. will copy email below

Chest x-ray, shows borderline over inflation, with minimal peribronchial thickening centrally. The appearances may reflect mild airways inflammation,
This would be consistent with a mildly wheezy child, and would be consistent with a clinical picture.

It sounds very similar to the result my DGD had when recovering from bronchilitis.

She is still recovering, but nothing serious.

The lungs were slightly over inflating and tubes were inflamed.

Hope he is well soon. It is strange for your Dr to send this without explanation.

AS Lynli says I think its nothing sinister. Hyperinflation is just taking in very deep breaths to get more oxygen into the body via the lungs. This happens mostly in children when a} there is infection clogging up the small airways preventing proper oxygenation and b) narrowing of the small airways by asthma type reactions/ inflammation/ bronchiolitis. There are other reasons too seen mainly in adults. The thickening is probably due to the swelling caused by inflammation.

Was DS having breathing difficulties unrelated to an existing lung condtion, like chest infection or bronchiolitis?
