5 1/2-6 I think

purplearmadillo · 02/12/2010 18:53

DD was 5 1/2. Our dentist agreed with Seth, but did say his experience was that it was getting earlier.

FloralFlowers · 02/12/2010 18:58

purplearmadillo, did they dentist say why he thought it was getting earlier?

I'm a children's dentist, youngest I've seen is 4, but 6 would be considered 'normal'

my son lost his first tooth a few weeks ago and he's 8 Grin

bigchris · 02/12/2010 19:18

Ds was 6 and a half

FloralFlowers · 02/12/2010 19:24

My dentist said that a child that looses teeth earlier, around 4, could have got them early or be a child that hits puberty early?????

HelenRosie, does this sound correct??

I'm just asking as DD1 is 6, and recently lost first tooth, DD2 has just turned 4, and the front teeth are 'loose' or moving, which I have been told is normal.

And that it doesn't mean they will come out soon?

Possibly, I'm not aware of any studies showing a link between primary tooth loss and puberty. There is a huge variation in what is normal though. I have seen 8 year olds with no primary teeth left and adults who still have some.

My DD1 started losing hers at 4, but I thought back and she was teething at 4 months when the HV said she "couldn't possibly be" so I suppose the correlation could be there. I was really alarmed as she told me she'd been hit in the face with a doll at nursery but the dentist said that they were naturally loose.

My DD lost her first tooth at 7 or 8. She's 11 now and has just lost her 10th tooth. She cut her first tooth at 13 months.

SE13Mummy · 02/12/2010 19:54

DD1 cut her first tooth at 15 weeks old. She was 5 and a half when she first lost one (and, 6 months later, has now lost 4).

ConstanceFelicity · 02/12/2010 19:56

My DS (5 is staring to lose them, bless his heart. The gap is so cute.

I am 27 and still have two milk teeth.

YuleBeLucky · 02/12/2010 19:56

I was 7 when I lost mine. DS cut his first tooth at 10 mths and is nearly 6 yrs old now and no wobbles, yet.

silverfrog · 02/12/2010 19:57

dd1 has just lost her first tooth, she is 6.6. no sign of any others being loose as yet. she cut her first tooth bang on 6 months.

my grandmother lost her last milk tooth at the age of 68 Shock

Hulababy · 02/12/2010 19:58

DD was 7y4m when she lost her first tooth - she was the last in her class by quite a long time. She is 8y7m now and has lost 8.

DD was late losing teeth but didn't get her first tooth til she was 13m, so it was probably inevitable.

Several of DD's friends lost their first teeth in reception.
