I know teething will end eventually, that it can't last forever, but i can't ^feel^ it

Baby is 15mo and has 16 teeth including the canines that have ensured she has been cranky and not sleeping properly for over two months. And now it looks as though she's going straight on to molar teething judging by the angle of finger-chewing... Sad how much longer can this last? She's had a cold/runny nose for weeks now.

I think it's really hard to say! My DS is 2.3 and has been teething his molars for three months - and only has one of them so far. I keep thinking that it can't go on for much longer - but it does! But other people's DCs sail through them all without much problem. I would say that if her other teeth have been long affairs, these last ones may be too, judging by our experience. Sorry - but you're so nearly there now. Smile Think of us with pity - we'll have had an extra year on you. Grin

Dc3 has been teething since he was 3 weeks old when the first tooth bud appeared and is now 4months. He can almost get his whole fist in his mouth and we have shares in calpol, nurofen, ashton & parsons and dentinox teething gel.

Big waves of sympathy to dd and, of course, you.

"we have shares in calpol, nurofen, ashton & parsons and dentinox teething gel."

We do too! I was on the edge of hysteria when Ashton's powders went out of stock everywhere a few weeks ago, I can tell you. The poor child is doped up to the eyeballs most of the time.

I've got 18 month age gap between my DC, DS still teething when DD started. It been 2 1/2 years of teething up to now. TBH I can't feel that it's ever going to end either.

DS finished at about 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 IIRC, DD started earlier so will probably finish earlier too, but she's still got quite a fewto go.

tinypurpleflower · 04/12/2010 13:58

arrgghhhh....this is pretty much the only noise I'm making at the mo - DD has been teething for a couple of weeks (she's 6mths), the tooth finally broke thru on Wed and I thought this just might mean we were on the home stretch...but NO! Last night was a nightmare - she only slept for 4hrs total, and not all in one go either! Is it OK to just keep dosing them up like crazy??!! NOTHING makes her sleep!

duchesse · 04/12/2010 22:18

tinypurple- have you tried nelson's powders (homeopathic) and Ashton's powders (herbal)? If they work for your baby it might save some doses of calpol and/or nurofen. I feel bad about doping her up continually but thankfully Ashton's powders work very well on her. Not quite well enough to prevent pain when the teeth are on the point of breaking through, but enough to tide her over low-level pain.

Also, they usually get teeth in sets- so that first tooth will probably be very closely followed by the one next to it. Once that's through you might get a bit of respite.

sorry to hijack but is there a trick to getting Ashton's powders onto babies tongue everytime I try it seemd to get everywhere except in the baby!

duchesse · 04/12/2010 22:56

Ah, yes they are a bugger to get into the baby, granted. Either wait till the baby's wailing then tip swiftly just inside the mouth (you don't want to tip them straight down their throat or they could breathe them), or model what you want by opening your mouth and asking them to open their mouth, then tip them in calmly. They catch on quite quickly. DD3 lights up when she so much as sees the packet now. coughbabycrackcouchcough

I've been using Ashtons - no clue if it's helping, tho, as to be sure I'd have to try not giving them then risk the results! To get it into my LO I've beenwetting my finger then putting it in the powder and into her mouth until it's all in...she won't open her mouth spontaneously for anything Hmm

We're in teething hell too - poor thing has cried herself hoarse she's in so much pain Sad and the little buggers keep appearing and then disappearing!
