HI
DS(4)has now go a chest infection he is on antibiotics and prednisone. Would you let him go to school tomorrow? He is eating well and playing but getting very tired and grumpy easily. He came out for a walk today well wrapped up and got very wheezy even after having Ventolin before he went out.I would normally keep him at home but he has so much time of school because of bad tummy bug and asthma.

Do you really need to ask?

purplearmadillo · 28/11/2010 18:01

My DS who has chest problems is younger, but my feeling is no.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 28/11/2010 18:03

No I wouldn't.

cedmonds · 28/11/2010 18:11

It was more to let DH see that i not keeping him at home for the sake of it.Sad He is really well in himself but i just think thats just the predlisonle, making him hyper.

He's only 4 and it's sub zero, so no.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 28/11/2010 18:23

No. DD (4) had a chest infection in mid October, confirmed by x ray, antibiotics, pred etc. She continued to go to school, and when she was at Children's Hospital a couple of weeks ago, she still had the chest infection Sad.

So, although he may be outwardly 'fine', give him time to get over it.

Hope he gets better soon...

chandra · 28/11/2010 18:24

How's dd Pixie?

RubberDuck · 28/11/2010 19:01

Absolutely not.

Am asthmatic myself, if that helps. Chest infection + extremely cold weather is not a good mix.

Definitely not.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 28/11/2010 19:43

I wouldn't send any of mine with a chest infection and none of them have asthma.

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/11/2010 19:44

definite definite no.

MillyMollyMardy · 28/11/2010 19:51

I sent my ds to nursery with the same a few weeks ago but he was fine with it, happy but wheezy. If he had been tired and grumpy that would have been different. Before you all leap on me nursery knew he had an infection and they knew if they called and said he was worse I would have gone to get him.

Acanthus · 28/11/2010 19:52

No of course not

No chance. If ds is on prednisolone (as he regularly is these days) he stays at home - paed's advice.

RiojaLover75 · 28/11/2010 19:56

No!! Your ill DS should stay home esp with asthma AND a chest inf, poor child. Not really going to feel up to much as school are they?? Hmm

No he saw the OOH and they phoned the hospital about wether to give him antibiotics and prednisone. I had kind off made my mide up about school but just wanted a 2nd opinion. He hasn' down a full week at school this half term as he has had one thing after the other and school are starting to get nasty about it, even though he only just 4 ( end of august baby) [SHOCK] and some off the ime he has been in hospital with his chest.

Keep him home and see if the school would give him some home type work so that he can keep up with the class. They should be more reasonable than they seem to be.

Horton · 28/11/2010 20:57

I would keep him at home, too. If you want to send him and he wants to go, I would ask if it is possible for him to be inside during break times as although school might not be too much for him, playing outside in sub-zero weather almost certainly will.

dikkertjedap · 28/11/2010 20:59

Absolutely not. In case of an emergency you need to handle quick - I wouldn't trust staff looking after lots of children to be able to do that. Plus he is on prednisolone suppressing his immune system, making it even more likely to pick up other stuff. He must feel quite rotten so I would keep him home and give lots of TLC and do nice things together.

cedmonds · 28/11/2010 21:03

They sent home a couple of reading books and said some things that they are doing. BUt were really difficult about giving it to me and said he needs to be in school, to learn.
Hopefully he will be ok to go to school on wednesday as they are doing a Christmas workshop and he is really looking forword to it.
Half the problem is parents sending the children in after they have been sick during the night Angry, and when he is under the weather he picks any thing up. I keep hoping as he gets older he will get better at fighting bugs off. He always gets it really badly.Eg a temp bug going around and he had it with temps of 40 and febirle fits.
