DS2 is very blotchy and red

As the title says, DS2 (3) is very blotchy and red. It seemed to start with a couple of blotches under his eyes and he now has them all over his face and his torso.

NHS Direct website is no help.

He seems fine in himself but looks dreadful. They look almost like burns as they are raised up. Does anybosy have any idea what it could be?

allergic reaction/hives ? has he eaten / touched something that could have caused this?

have you tried an antihistamine?

Egg · 27/11/2010 19:04

def sounds like my ds2 when he has reacted to something. Try piriton to see if it helps.

Eglu · 27/11/2010 19:06

Thanks, I thought it might be some kind of reaction to something. I can't think what it would have been though. He's hardly eaten anything today.

Will see if we have any childrens piriton in.

Oh same here with my DS. He is exactly the same (just his face). His are hives and he has allergic reactions although it seems it may be viral this time?

My DS has hardly eaten today either Sad.

I have rung OOH GP as NHS direct has 4 hours wait.

Gave DS antihistamine earlier and it did go but its now back. Ill let you know what the GP says when he rings back.

Ecxzema? Not sure if you can get Piriton for under 6s without a prescription any more.

Eglu · 27/11/2010 19:28

Hope your DS feels better soon Mumbar.

DS2 seems totally fine, but looks awful.

The Piriton we have is fine for young children (think over age 1 but not sure). DS2 definitely had it when he was 16 months or so and we just buy it over the counter. It may have changed mind you as have not bought a new one for at least six months.

DS1 did once have a viral rash that looked v similar to DS2s allergy rash. He had been ill though and they apparently tend to come out at end of illness.

Eglu · 27/11/2010 19:36

Thanks Egg. My DSes are prone to viral rashes too, but they tend to look deffierent to this.

Well spoken to DR, he thinks allergy - to what who knows!! Given more chlorphenamine (its the ingredient in puriton - this ones called allereif). His is prescribed but its the same stuff you can buy OTC and is for children over a year so you should be fine with it for DS.

GP also said the sudden blocked nose and quicker breathing could be due to allergic reaction not a sudden cold Smile. His breathing has slowed down now but he's very tired (just laid on the sofa watching gladiators!) so hard now to tell if it is illness. BTW he was fine up until about 20 mins before the 'hives' appeared both times.

This rash does look more 'spotty' than the others - possibly viral?

I'll try and upload photo and put it on my profile for you to see - perhaps a comparison may help?

Hope your DS better soon.

OK I have uploaded a piccy of DS as he is now on my profile (get me - the techophobe!).

Usually I have a closed profile and def no pictures so will delete later but OP feel free to have a look.
