Hi there just looking for some advice for my 8mo dd who has been sick this afternoon and had some diarrhoea. She has just been sick straight after a bf and just wondering how long I should leave it before trying again. She otherwise quite well and there has been a bug doing the rounds.

I would be led by her - if she wants to feed then let her - even if it comes back it will have offered her comfort by being close and suckling - hope she's better soon

No reason not to carry on bf to demand. They will absorb some even if they seem to bring it all back up. Hydration is v important and bf is so much more than that. Probably v comforting for a poorly baby. I thanked god I was still bfing when dd had her first stomach bug at 10 months.

Thanks for your replies, dd is much better now however she seems to have reverted to being ebf and now refusing solids. She does have a cold now as well so probably still not that interested in food. Luckily I'm off work this week so able to feed on demand!

Might help to use saline nose drops before feeding (can also use sterimar, easier to dose), good luck

I've never tried nose drops before, thanks for advice.

Our paediatrician advised saline drops just before b/f if baby has cold. I found the normal saline drops (over the counter, Boots etc) quite difficult to dose, GP advised Sterimar (also safe for babies, Boots etc) much easier. It clears nose just long enough to b/f if you are lucky and can be used several times a day if necessary. Baby needs to lay on its side on flat surface when you give drops might ask pharmacist how to use them if not sure.

Ok thanks just had a look on boots website so I'll give it try as she is getting really bunged up- poor wee thing!
