molluscum - does anything work?

My DSS (6) has had molluscum for a while now, mainly around his bottom/groin area and my DS (24 months) now appears to have contracted this from his brother. He has to spots on his groin, armpits, stomach and thighs. He's had one or two for about 6 months but they now seem to be spreading all over his body. I'm a nightmare because I can't help myself but want to pick/squeeze them but obviously at just 2 he is very resistent to me picking at any bit of his body (I've even tried to pick them at night when he's asleep - so he wakes up groggy to me furtling under his pyjamas and I can only get one at a time before he wakes!).
Has anyone used anything that seemed to work on them? Online searches reveal lots of herbal type treatments but only want to fork-out and treat them both if there is a possibility of success.
Any experiences gratefully received.

Im answering an old thread just in case anyone is seeking out info on these spots. When my son contracted these spots I had no idea what it was and neither did my doctor! Having googled I came across Molluscum and this looked exactly like his spots. Took him back to the surgery and another Doc confirmed this is what they were and the easiest solution was to leave them for 6/12 months!! ...I think not! especially as they had spread over his torso and he was due to start back to school in September. So I tried a variety of alternatives which I wont bore you with but the one that WORKS is virgin coconut oil. The oil contains antibacterial properties. Spread across the spots for a week and spots cleared up. No need to spend a fortune on other creams.

Hello
About to make doc appt for my ds tomorrow. 12 years old and suddenly really upset by his MC spots. Not been to docs before as diagnosed myself, as look what they are. One big spot on tummy but he noticed more coming on his arms [along with flare up of eczema]. He cried.
GP/ nurse hard to get appts with so if can't will talk to pharmacist near surgery. Guessing they will say leave it but he has had big spot since before Christmas and now emotional about it all and panicing I think re spread.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, cost a fortune but cleared DS's up in a week.

Been told to leave alone by nurse. Will see how we go....
Told spread was through him picking/ scratching them. I don't think he is. Certainly not squeezing them.
Wonder what is in Elizabeth Arden cream that worked!

Ok, so need to treat eczema as well as leave spots alone. DS put hydrocortisone on spots! So I am in charge from now on. Hope not done any harm as a one off. Only supposed to go on flare up eczema not spots.
Got oily stuff for bath and zerobase cream for when hydrocortisone done its job.
Nothing for the spots... Hope they don't spread anymore. Nervous at hands-off approach but ds wants us to do as we are told for the moment. [Reading instructions on creams will be a good start for both of us!].

PS: At mo only one huge spot on tummy. Will others on arms be likely to be as big? Can they stay small? Has one little cluster of 3 small ones on his arm as well as very small other ones on arm. One on tummy a monster...
