DD 5 has sore vagina area

She has woken up a couple of times in the last week screaming in pain. She says it is not inside as such but the general area is irritated, bottom included. She does not have any problem urinating.

I suspect the fact that she still wears a nappy at night does not help. She is washed property in the bath daily.

So far when this happens I have washed the area and left her nappy off for a while before applying metanium cream.

Does anyone have any advice?

You are probably doing the right thing with the metanium cream (but lordy, is it difficult to get off). Some children can develop sensitivities to the absorbant filling in disposables, it may be that. She also may have either a fungal infection (thrush) or possibly threadworms, which are always more active at night.

Has she got worms? dd was like that for a couple of weeks before we realised what it was. Fine during the day then screaming at night but unable to explain exactly where it was hurting. We thought she was sore from not wiping properly or attention seeking Blush. She responded to washing & cream in the short term but obviously didn't solve the problem. Got worm treatment from the doctor for the whole family - described symptoms over the phone, didn't need an appointment. Solved the problem v. quickly.

Really sounds like worms, I would take her to the GP

Oh gosh not worms again!!!! She had a case in about May/June. I have checked her bottom and no sign yet. She says it stings.

I do wonder about thrush though too - would that make it painful to wee? She says it doesn't hurt to wee.

My dd 5 also has this intermittently, we tried "worming" her - makes her sound like a dog Grin Gp tried a fungal infection swab, but that was negative too. In the end we have come to the conclusion that she is not quite wiping away all the urine properly, and it is causing something like nappy rash. We just treat with nappy cream when it is starting to look a bit pink.

I've just bought worming tablets - actually symptoms last time were similar.
