Wonky head in 9 week old

Hi there,

Hope you're all well. Just wondered if anyone else has experience of this: Our DD's head is flat on one side, causing her to constantly look to the right. She can look to the left, but the flat spot makes it automatically easier to look to the right.

Will the flat spot go / sort itself out, or should we go to our GP?

Thanks!

Is this due to her always sleeping on one side?
It's quite common to have a wonky head due to that, but it doesn't always correct itself naturally.
If that is the reason for it, one easy way to help it correct is to put a small rolled towel (or other such material) under her side when she sleeps so that her head rolls to the other side. The bones are so soft that it should correct before too long.
Otherwise, if you're worried, mention it to the doctor at her next check up.

My dd2 had this. We took her to a cranial osteopath to have her neck sorted out (she was back to back in labour and turned)

We were also referred to the hospital by my Gp (I made a fuss about it).

But, now she is 9mo you can barely notice it. It was quite bad. I think there is a photo on my profile?

Health visitors will tell you all about tummy time, moving their head etc but I think you need to do something about it now.

Photo added of when dd2 was about 3mo.

Hi there,

Many thanks for the advice. We've started doing tummy time today and will definitely try the rolled towel on the side where she sleeps.

RuthChan - Yes, it seems to be her default to always sleep on her side.

mamma2 - Our DD is virtually the same. She has loads of hair, so you can't see it as much, but you can really feel it. I think I'll be making an appt with the GP and see where we got from there.
