Woohoo! Inhaler breakthrough!

I've done it! I've managed to get DD to take her inhaler without having to pin her down and her screaming!

I put In The Night Garden on TV, sat her on my lap facing the TV, gave her the first puff and counted to 10 very quietly in her ear. Removed the spacer for a short while. Repeated a million times (or so it felt). No tears, no screaming and, most importantly, no breath holding which has been her latest trick.

She then took the spacer from me (I removed the inhaler, naturally) and carried on putting it to her face and breathing in.

She's 19 months old and has had the inhaler since May! I thought we'd never get to this point (although to be fair she hasn't had it often in the past few months, only when she has a cold with wheezing.)

We cracked it by making it into 'the magic trumpet' and all having a go first.

Well done though, it makes a horrible job less painful when they just get on with it!

Well done. We've been very fortunate with DS1 who is happy to take it if we sing. He's been having it since he was about 14 months.

DS2 is very keen on his new inhaler. We get DS1 to take his inhaler first (with the spacer, even though he doesn't need it) while DS2 watches. DS2 wants to copy DS1 and do everything he does, so he's delighted to be taking an inhaler now too. I think he'll be disappointed when he gets over his chest infection and no longer needs it.

We have been so lucky as we got DS' when he was just 5-6 months so he has never known any different

I used to let him play with it all the time too, and he takes it on his own now and has since he was nearly 4

I did start by not really giving it too him when he was awake I have to be honest, and just letting him play with it and he never had any fear.

The magic of Night Garden
Also good for reluctant eaters!

Never had a problem with reluctant eating - she eats like a horse!

It seems any TV works... It was Show Me Show Me today.
