waiting to find out if 3yo has cancer

My 3 year old daughter has just had a huge operation to remove a urachal cyst last Wednesday. It was to size of a melon, and had adhered to her bladder and front wall. She is still in hospital till at least Saturday. Bladder had to be cut and they had to leave 20% of the cyst in.she is being so brave.

Anyone offer any advice on how to cope? They said at first it would be a few days till we find out,but mow they are saying Friday. This is worrying me even more as it'd taking longer

I don't know about this condition but when dd was waiting for results after a biopsy it did take quite a few days as they wanted to wait for the results of scans and x-rays to have a full picture before going through them with us.

I remember how horrible it was waiting, seemed like ages so know how you feel.

I hope you get the results soon and that it is good news.

Oh Divster - I posted on your FB the other day as I'd totally missed your updates on there and then read back and saw what has been happening.

I hope you get good news tomorrow

Great news! Thanks BATC.

MmeLindt · 19/11/2010 19:08

Gosh, this is the first time that I have seen anyone post about a urachal cyst. Wish I had seen earlier.

My DD had an OP to remove a cyst when she was just a baby - 8 weeks. It was a much smaller OP than your DD went through - presumably because it did not have time to grow.

She recovered well from the OP, and tbh, the doc did not even mention a risk of cancer. Not sure if they did that to save us from the worry, or if it were less common with such a small baby.

In any case she recovered well - but did have a urinary infection a couple of weeks afterwards.

She is now 8yo and aside from a couple of small scars either side of her navel, there is no sign at all of the op.

Glad to hear that the results came back negative.

Great news!!! x

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/11/2010 19:09

no problem - saw her status update a little while ago on FB - actually she doesn't say coming home today on it Blush - she says "she weed coming home" (which I took to mean today)..

Fab news though Grin

Good news :)

Didn't refresh this page just now on my phone before I posted!

Thank you everyone. Surgeon went and personally got the results for us, as he wanted to know as well. Its not the full histology report, but sounds good so far. She is having trouble weeing, and was sent for an emergency scan at 5:30 last night, which showed a full bladder but no blockage. So they were going to put catheter back in for 48 hours. Thankfully an hour later she did a wee by herself! Drama right to the end!

As he left 20% of the cyst in, as it was stuck to the bladder too much in one place, he is unsure what it will do,whether it will grow back. I feel uneasy that some is still in there as well. She will be having regular check ups though, which is assuring.

Now I have to get all my emotions out, as have been staying strong, and just try to put this mad 2 weeks behind us!

Thank you everyone xx

No its fine BATC, didnt realise so many were following this for updates! Hope it didnt spark a troll alert! Wink

I am having wine tonight, and am going to let the tears flow!

I really felt at one or three points I would lose her, she was in such a bad way, and needed a blood transfusion during the operation.

Today at home, she is very much back to normal, but is 5lbs lighter, so needs building up again.

Her belly button doesnt look the same either, but guess that is the least of our worries!

Thank you mumsnetters! xx
