Any good stories about tooth extraction?

DS is 11.
Saw orthodontist yesterday who recommended DS get a molar extracted so that his canine can move down into place (I can see there's no room for the canine otherwise, I believe orthodontist that it will cause more harm if not allowed to move down by removing a tooth).

I still hate the idea of DS getting a healthy tooth removed. Anyone BTDT and want to cheer me up? It seems likely that DS will have 4 teeth eventually (like his dad and MIL). Am still feeling a bit :( about it, though!

Hi Op my eldest had to have 4 teeth removed at about that age, then train tracks braces then a retainer.
It didn't bother him at all, treatments lasted about 3 years I think.
He now has the most beautiful teeth and is very proud of them!
His Dad had exactly the same problem with overcrowding and did not have any treatment as a teen and he has had nothing but trouble with his teeth for years. HTH

I had one premolar out of each quarter. IIRC I didn't like the gas and was a bit sick after but result, my teeth fit my mouth. If I hadn't had them out there wouldn't have been room for my wisdom teeth to come through - MUCH better extract premolars than those buggers from all I hear!

And in your DSs case, if the canine has nowhere else to go it may come out in the roof of his mouth, not nice.

Don't be sad, its good they can sort it out at this age.

My DD had exactly the same thing done . She had a tooth out to let a canine come down and now her teeth look Fab !!

Its so well worth it and you will regret it if nothing is done.. . .
The honest truth is, once the local anaesthetic is in you dont feel any pain at all and not even any pulling...I have had 2 teeth out and i never felt any pain.
Also Dentist numbs the gum b 4 he puts in the local too. . .so may be the only uncomfortable bit of whole experience.
