Nappy rash and constipation

DD is two and a half and suffers badly from constipation. She poos maybe once a week. Currently on Movicol peadiatric plain.

Since yesterday she's been struggling to poo, and has developed a very very sore nappy rash all over her labia and down onto her inner bum cheeks.

She's currently passing the soft poo that is surrounding the older, harder poo, it's a bit like wet farts in her nappy, and i'm trying to be vigilant and change her every time she strains so she's not sat in a soiled nappy. She was in cloth but had to change her to disposables this morning as i couldn't keep up with the washing - i have two in cloth.

She's obviously in a lot of discomfort trying to poo, and now this napy rash as well - it's very sore and the skin is broken. The only thing i have in is drapolene, and i've been putting that on it.

Currently we're a house of ill - DS2 has a tempreture and is ill and DS3 is cooking something too. I'm wondering if DD has picked something up and this is causing her to have a sore nappy area? Would a water inection cause this?

Any thoughts on what i can do for her? I've got the poo angle covered, it's more a question of waiting for her to poo, but the nappy rash is a totally new thing.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

does she drink plenty of water? (sorry obvious question)

I would try some probiotics (good bacteria), Higher Nature Probioeasy is excellent. Its a colourless tasteless powder, sprinkle it over food like yoghurt or cereal. You only need to use about quarter teaspoon.

Nappy rash definitely use metanium, it is amazing rash will be gone in no time! Sainsburys, Boots etc has it, yellow tube!

My ds almost 2 had 5 ml lactulose last week, 3 hours later his systemself cleared! Also a bit of Gillian mckeef. (sp) have you tried putting her on her back and peddling her legs upwards etc to loosen the bowel area? Adults it's good for us to poo with knees elevated off ground so feet on step etc so we are kinda crouching position!

Anyway hope this helps, I sympathize

my dd has had a very sore bottom too due to constant soiling with constipation, doctor recommended metanium as is clay based and sticks to there skin even when they wee. try washing the stuff off your hands, nightmare!! also if she is resisting you cleaning her bottom, use a wipe dipped into sudocrem or aqueous cream, this is much softer and cooling for them as wipes on there own can be quite harsh.

Ohh - thanks for that tip!

She finally pooed at 4am, then again at 11. She's just asked for something to eat, so fingers crossed she'll be on the mend.

Her nappy area is still very sore, so will have a look for metanium when i go out in a bit.
