can a nine yo get a migrane

Dd had a five min episode this eve where she had horizontal lines in her vision. Google suggests its likely to be an occular migrane which can happen with no headache. She's fine now. She does wear specs, last sight check was two months ago and was fine.

yes. i went to school with a girl who from age 6 would have regular migranes.

sorry. i suffer myself and its rubbish.

maybe worth another visit to optician in case of a sudden change to her perscription.

Thanks, will definetly ring the optician's on Monday and ask if they want to see her or if it ought to be the GP.

Our GP surgery carries a really good leaflet on childhood migrane. (which I think was sponsored by migraleve, but was still really informative, and reassuring) DD often has bad tummy ache with hers.

a friend of mine has a dd who had migraines. she went on to start her periods at 9......maybe hormonal?

I had my first migraine aged about 9 - was terrified, as I had no idea what was happening. Periods didn't start until later though (can't remember, was maybe 12), so even if it is hormonal, it won't necessarily mean early puberty.

I had my first migraine around this age and DS did too - he gets the flashing, we give him half a prescribed tablet, he vomits, lies down and then an hour later is back to normal

I suffewred quite badly as a child and mine sound very similar to Maud's ds.
I used to wake with a terrible headache, have disturbed vision etc. I would be like this for a couple of hours then be sick.
After the sickness I slept and woke up, usually by lunch time, perfectly fine.
Fwiw, my mum's friend who was a hv recommended something to my mum which worked very well. I was very active as a child and went to lots of clubs in the early evenings - gymnastics, swimming etc. My migraines often followed a club the night before when I had had my tea early, then gone out and used lots of energy. She told my mum to give me a xoiple of biscuits before I went to bed to increase my blood sugar. As you can imagine, I loved this but it did work very well.

My friend's son has had migraines since he was 5, so yes, it's entirely possible :(

I've had migraines since I was 5.

They were mainly triggered by food additives in those days (you could guarantee that if I'd been to a party, I'd have a migraine within a few hours) but now they're set off by any number of things. I'd have disturbed vision and an awful headache with culminated in vomiting and then it would fade pretty quickly.
