Spots! How do I know if it's chicken pox??

Stupid question alert I'm afraid.
My ds is 2.5 and has been unwell for a week now with a temperature and really frequent runny poos. This morning he has some spots. Not many, but some on his face, arms and legs. One or 2 on his tummy. I remember when dd had chicken pox that she was really unwell before the spots appeared, but she had such a mild case I can't reememebr what the spots looked like.
How will I know for sure?? I have rememebred that there was a spotty child at school a few weeks ago, so I suppose he may have been exposed

cp spots are more like little blisters

Just google images chicken pox.

Oh bum. That's just what they look like :(
Well, I will pray he has as mild a case as dd did. How am I meant to keep him inside with a school run to contend with though???? Is it enough to take him in the buggy and keep the raincover on? I guess he's already been contagious for a few days Hmm

he's going to catch cp sooner or later, better to get it over with now. ds had it at 7 weeks old, really bad, was covered in them, i on the other hand, was 24 when i had it, they joys of having a much younger brother to catch these things from!

as far as the school run is concerned, you'll have to take him (unless a friend can pick up your dd for the next few days), but keep clear of anyone who is, or you suspect might be pregnant. you could always ask the school to keep hold of your dd for 5-10 minutes, and go and get her once the playground has cleared a bit. am sure the school would do that for you, it'll only be for a few days and if you explain about the cp being contagious, they'll probably be glad to help.

good luck Smile

I totally agree it's better to catch it now. I'm no longer in any doubt that it's the pox, the spots have been coming up all day, and it's funny that just like dd, now the spots are here, he seems much better in himself, his appetite is back on track for a start Grin
I'm armed with enough food to last the week and more porridge oats and calamine than you can shake a stick at. Bring it on.
