recurring spots in toddler...?

every 3 months or so, DS gets red blister like spots on his hands, feet and face, sometimes spreading to his legs and torso. They don't bother him, aren't contagious and never last for more than a couple of days.

GP said it isn't hand foot and mouth but doesn't want to test further as it isn't bothering DS (and I agree) - but I wondered if anyone else had encountered this?

Sounds exactly like hand foot and mouth though, doesn't it?

How does GP know it isn't unless he has tested?

Because hand foot and mouth is very contagious and can bother some children a lot.

he said it isn't because of where the spots occur (i.e. Around his mouth, not inside, backs of hands not palms etc.) and because of the amount of times it's recurred. Also there are never any other cases coinciding at nursery. It's a 'non-specific skin condition'.....

Fair enough :)

DS gets spots on his cheeks that seem to be associated with teething, but never on hands and feet...

If it persists, could you ask for a referral to a dermatologist?

BangingNoise · 05/11/2010 17:52

Could it be an allergy?

cupofcoffee · 06/11/2010 07:58

Does it itch?

No, no itching. Doesn't bother him in the slightest and often disappears the day after it appears - they'll pop up during the day and be gone by the following evening. It could be an allergy I suppose but it doesn't seem like one to me. It does tend to coincide with him being ill with coughs/colds now that I think about it so perhaps it's just how his immune system reacts?

Perhaps he's half leopard. Strange child.
