Stomach Bug in 7mo old - Help or advice needed!

Hi - My 7 month old son started nursery 3 weeks ago and has caught a diarrihoa bug. He must have incubated it for a few days first as me and DH got it last week and it got passed on to Nanna and Pops too.

Anyway, DS has had runny nappies since Saturday night (now Tuesday evening). Sorry if TMI but they have been mostly water until today when they have been more yellow but still incredibly runny. Took DS to the out of hours Doc on Sunday night to be told that he could be like this for several days and to just keep feeding him as normal. But DS is now looking like he has lost weight (he's pretty lean anyway) and it's not getting any better.

We're off to see the Doctor in the morning again but I gues I'm looking for some reassurance that someone else has been through this and that to have diarrihoa for this long in a child of this age is normal?!

Any thoughts / advice / suggestions gratefukly receieved...

So 3 days, I would this was not abnormal, but yes go to the DRs and see what they say.

Is your DS eating and drinking well, is he weaned? Try to get him to eat the following, and not all together! These foods are good for cleansing and binding a tummy bug
rice
apples
bananas
toast

Poor thing, it is horrid when they are poorly x

Thanks for that! Yes he is weaned and has been eating without too many problems but will try him on the food suggestions.

I never thought I'd be grateful for a stoggy poo in my life!

I know, it is daft! I alway wish it was me that would be poorly instead of my DS.

Hope you get your firm poo soon!

Apparently, it can last a while - horrible tho. I was told to give my boy Dioralyte by doc when he had terrible runs - he loved it(strange boy) and helped with my concern regarding dehydration.

Doc also told me that these bugs can lead to a temporary lactose intolerance, so not to give him dairy until he better.

These things helped me, hope some use.

My DS also had a tummy bug when he started nursery. Lasted for about 10 days - which doctor said was not unusual. He also said to feed him as usual (although I did offer more BRAT), I kept offering mikl as usual as I did not want to reduce his milk intake as I did not think he was drinking enough water to ensure he did not get dehydrated. One day his poos just returned to normal. After he got over it - he ate enormously for a few days - probably to catch up on any weight he might have lost!
