Constipation after Ovex for worms!

sorry hope this isn't too much information! but DD1 showed signs of having worms (just started school - classic i gather) and so we bought some Ovex on saturday morning and gave it to her. Since then no sign of symptoms anymore but she hasn't done a poo :-( so its now 2.5 days (she is always regular as clockwork so its def something to do with the medicine).

She starts back at school (reception) tomorrow and I'm a bit worried. I have given her a couple of doses of lactulose today (which is pretty useless i think anyway) but i am panicking a bit about why this is happening and the fact that nothing has come out yet.

Is this normal (I thought the medicine was meant to cause the opposite problem if anything)?

thanks

We had the total oposite a few months ago, DD had explosive poops!(sorry TMI)
She had a nasty stomach cramp too poor lamb.
Lactulose is pants in my opinion too, I take it as i'm on a regular dose of morphine which bungs me up and it doesn't tend to help. All it does is soften stools. I don't know if little one can take it but, senna is something else I take to stop being bunged up. The senna works differently by stimulating the muscles, so you might find thats the problem?
I'm sorry I'm not much help, don't have much experiance in these sort of things apart from an adults point! I'd say if she's not gone by tomorrow take her to the health visitor?
Not sure what it is for children but in babies if they've not opened their bowels in 72hours its a health clinic jobby.
The health visitor should be able to help.
Hope she feels better soon xxx

Thanks zoelikesjam. Yes it is odd as i read it generally had the opposite effect too. She is a tricky eater and doesn't do juice etc so quite hard to get anything useful down her - she is currently eating raisins as an alternative to the lactulose which she hates. She is off to school this morning so i suppose i am going to have to explain it all to them in case she gets uncomfortable!

Bit worried about giving her Senna when she is going to school as it can cause cramps.

I am working today so if no joy by tonight will have to try to see someone tomorrow. Getting paranoid about some kind of worm impaction :-(

How is she feeling this afternoon Jasperc?
I wasn't sure about the Senna, wasn't even sure if little ones could take it, didn't realise it could cause cramps so nooooo, avoid!
Poor lamb, I'd not even thought about impaction :( I've tried to google but can't find anything. I think the best bet now is to give the Dr's/Health visitor/NHS direct a call, see what they say/suggest?
Let me know how she gets on and how she's feeling x

Hurrah. Just got home and 10 mins later DD announced she needed to go! Copious amounts of raisins and baked beans today seem to have done the trick. HUGE relief :-)
