Medised - old dosage for 1-2yr olds

Hello

When my dd was really sick, I used to use Medised - only once at nights but it really used to work well.

Obviously they have changed the age, but a lot of people I know still use it.

I'm going to try it on my ds who is very unwell. Just bought the bottle but because it is now for 6+ the recommended dosage on the packaging is also for 6+.

Does anyone have an old bottle in their cupboard and is able to tell me what the recommended dosage is for 1-2yr olds (my ds is 16months).

Many thanks.

3mnths to 1 year: half to one 5ml spoonful 3-4 times daily

1yr to under 6 yrs: One to two 5ml spponfuls 3-4 times daily

Just wanted to highlight one of the reasons that medised was withdrawn for under 6's is because it can mask symptoms. If you actively sedate your 16mth old then you won't be able to tell whether he is drowsy from medised or from being seriously unwell.

I'm not scaremongering, but my DS (4) was incredibly unwell earlier this year and I wouldn't have realised if I had used medised (like I have in the past)

I suppose it depends on what kind of 'really unwell' your DS is. If it is the kind of illness that you would like to monitor if he became overly drowsy or unresponsive then I would stick with Junior Nurofen/Calpol.

Hope he feels better soon.

Thanks BigTeuch. I will only use once a day at 11pm.

The doctor says this is a bad cold, and during the daytime, it does appear as a bad cold (with a temp), it is the night time that is a nightmare when he becomes hysterical.

I will only use with extreme caution, and only for two nights at first.

Many thanks.
